BOXES

Stunning 19th Century Maple + Rosewood Box
This beautiful and good sized box comes from about 1840. It is made in flame maple and inlaid with rosewood flowers and foliage and has a mother of pearl shield in the centre.

It has a spring loaded side drawer which is opened by pulling up the brass release pin inside, which has been re-lined.

The lock and key work.

Absolutely wonderful!

Size aprox: 12" wide by 9" deep by 6" high.

Tea Caddy, Work Box, Mahogany inlaid
Here is a lovely work box inlaid with mother of pearl and of un usual and very attractive design.I wonder if it was originally a tea caddy which has been converted in the Victorian era. However it looks authentic as a sewing/work box. The inlaid mahogany is wonderful and the hinges are very good.
Approx. 13" wide by 9.5" deep by 8.5" tall, with original little pad feet .
Two tiny stips of wood have been applied to the base ( not visible on display ) in order to strengthen the base, although I have to say it seems very solid anyway and I wonder if they nare really neccessary.
